Performance Experience
I am a guitarist and vocalist with over 20 years of experience. While studying at Berklee College Of Music in Boston I played in many rock and jazz ensembles . I specialize in acoustic classic and modern rock and play all over Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the greater New England area. For more formal events I also play classical guitar and have a large repertoire of popular, classical, and jazz songs.

Education/Training
James Graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1992 with a Fine Arts Degree. He also studied with renowned jazz guitarist John Wilkins, jazz great Hal Crook and pop singer Livingston Taylor (James Taylors brother).

Personal Statement
My method to teaching music and guitar is ever developing and changes depending on each students particular interest and needs. I try to incorporate the type of music which the student wants to play into my lesson plan. I do try to get students to learn to read music and to have a deeper understanding of music in general. I try to keep it fun. Learning to play the guitar can be fun but it also requires lots of work. I try to balance the fun and the work to keep the student headed in the right direction while remaining interested. Every student is different so I think it is important for a private music teacher to be able to adapt to each students personal needs and interests.

Thank You for your interest in guitar lessons:

Lessons are $25 per 1/2. I have students pay for the entire month on the first lesson week. This money reserves your time slot for the month. If you are writing a check: Write checks to "Harris Music" or "James Harris". Cash is always acceptable and I will keep track of it if you pay this way. If you know in advance that you will be out of town etc we can try schedule a make up lesson. If you are going to miss a lesson please give me as much notice as possible. I need at least 24 hours notice. With enough time I may be able to fill the spot or fit in a student in who has been waiting to get in with me. I have limited teaching hours and lots of students. Thanks for your understanding.

I have several books which I keep on hand to start students in and they will between $6 and $15 depending on which direction we decide to go with our studies.

It is helpful to know a little about the students musical interests. For instance what groups they listen to or what type of music they are interested in. Even some favorite songs (Make a list of your 10 favorite songs). Knowing a students musical preferences gives me an idea of what direction to go with the lessons. I try to guide the study of music and guitar playing ( reading music included ) with a sense of direction towards playing the types of music which interest the student. Sometimes this process is fun ( learning songs from recordings) and sometimes it is work..( studying out of the book and doing assignments which I recommend) It all helps in the students musical development process. I try to keep it interesting while developing my guitar students into musicians.

Thank You,

James Harris
